SHQ Cruise to the Cerberus

The SHQ Cruise to the Cerberus SUP flatwater race was held at the Sandringham foreshore in Melbourne Australia over the weekend. This is one of the biggest races in that part of the country and participation more than doubled from last year. The Seabreeze Forum has a great post and pics all about the event. The top three finishers of over 40 paddlers all used KIALOA's Shaka Puu.

Preview of the KIALOA Dragon Hybrid

KIALOA Dragon Hybrid
KIALOA is getting ready to release the Hybrid Dragon Paddle, a first of its kind.
With Dragon Boat Season about to start its time to start looking at new equipment for 2009. This paddle is unique in the dragon boat world because of its blend of wood and carbon. Although not a new concept for outrigger there is not a dragon paddle like this on the market.
The combination of a triple laminated wood shaft and a full carbon blade is the perfect amount of stiffness for sprints. The wood shaft, however, provides a natural shock absorption that is impossible in full carbons.
The hybrid has been enormously popular as an outrigger paddle in both sprints and distance races. We believe that the feel of an elliptical shaft and Ergo-T, hand shaped from wood, will prove as popular with dragon boaters as it has with outrigger.
For more information and promotional offers for clubs in the USA please visit the KIALOA website.

KIALOA's New Adjustable Stand Up Paddle

Kialoa Hinalea Stand Up Paddle
KIALOA Paddles Introduces the New Adjustable Hinalea Stand Up Paddle

The Sage words of Gerry Lopez, "Don't forget the beginners," are the inspiration for KIALOA's stand-up paddle Hinalea. Featuring a foam-core blade and edged in Dynel, the Hinalea is tough enough to stand up to years of use. Add a bomber shaft of anodized seamless 6061-T6 aluminum and you have the perfect blend of lightness and durability. But the most exciting feature of the Hinalea is its 12 inches of adjustability. Lengthen or shorten the paddle to fit your entire family or let it grow with your young stand-up paddler.

The Hinalea is available in two sizes to cover the full range. Small covers from 62-74 and Large covers from 74-86

Blade width: 8 1/16th
Blade length 16 1/2
Surface area: 100 sq inches
Price : $199.00

People We Met at Surf Expo

Surf Expo in Orlando Florida was in the middle of January and we met some pretty interesting people. We'd like to introduce you to three in particular that made our time there a little more fun.

The Krochet Kids are Adam Thomson and Stewart Ramsey. They have created a non-profit organization whose aim is to fight poverty by producing and selling distinctive, life changing products. Currently 10 women in Uganda meet daily to crochet hats which will generate revenue that will be returned to help the greater community.

Dave and Doreen Skedeleski of Surfco Hawaii offer protective surfing accessories such as rail tape, paddle guards, fin guards, nose guards, etc.

Kasey Curtis of Lok Box has developed a really unique adjustable fin allowing surfers to customize their fin position for the surf conditons.
